Discover the artistry of natural inks and dye production in this hands-on workshop at Liwan Design Studios. Guided by Mangroves’ art consultant Dr. Sadra Zekrgoo (an art conservator, researcher, and expert in the field of ink making), participants will create handmade Persian manuscript inks using traditional recipes and extract natural dyes from locally sourced plant-based materials. Tools and materials are provided, giving everyone the chance to practice each step and experiment with colour.

The session includes dyeing filter paper, constructing handmade inks to create works of art such as calligraphy, paintings, and producing unique Rorschach inkblots. Participants will be encouraged to combine tradition with personal expression, turning artist materials into pieces that reflect both heritage and imagination. At the end of the workshop, everyone will take home their creations as a record of the experience and a reminder of the skills learned.
