Dr. Peter Nagy, Heritage & Architecture Interpretation Specialist at Qatar Museums.
Commonly known as the Old Palace, this architectural gem from the early twentieth century is today embraced by the modern National Museum of Qatar. The contrast between old and new – or, in other words, between heritage and modernity – is by no means coincidental: the French architect Jean Nouvel designed the museum incorporating the palace as if it was one of the objects on display. As part of the gallery circuit, the visitors are encouraged to submerge into Qatari history through this building, and our tour will provide guidance for just that. While learning about the site's development through its different phases, from the residence of the ruler Shaykh Abdullah bin Jasim to the new museum, visitors will also observe the traditional techniques and forms of Qatari architecture. Additionally, the tour will explain how the country has evaluated its built heritage, with a particular focus on the repeated efforts to conserve the Old Palace.erial samples. The room also includes a newly commissioned model of the Museum.
